Daniel Gibson making Danny Ferry look good

Blogged under Rookie Report, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 3 February 2007 at 6:43 pm

The Cavaliers considered taking Daniel Gibson in the first round because they liked him so much, but when Shannon Brown dropped to them in the first round Danny Ferry shifted gears and selected Brown. He tried desperately to trade up to snag Gibson, but he fell into their lap in the second round. Ferry and the Cavs were probably doing backflips in the teams’ offices. Daniel Gibson has now been elevated to the starting line-up to replace Eric Snow and he’s done well in his first three games. He reminds me a lot of Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs because he’s not a pass-first point guard. He’s also very fast and has a nice jump shot. He has played in 35 games this season and is averaging 15.4 minutes, 4.9 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists. Look for all of those numbers to jump now that he’s a starter. He also has hit 32 of 69 (46.4%) from three point range and he’ll make the opposition pay for packing the defense in the paint against the Cavs.

1st round pick Shannon Brown has been a huge disappointment for the Cavs. He’s only played in 10 games and is averaging 10.3 minutes, 2.5 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.7 assists. His shooting has also been awful as he’s only 10 of 33 (30.3%) shooting from the floor.

The Cavs rushed out to a 50-34 halftime lead and never looked back. The Cavs also hit the boards hard as they outrebounded the Bobcats 45-34. LeBron James led the way for the Cavs with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Drew Gooden also had a solid game with 16 points and 6 rebounds.

The Cavaliers improved to 27-20 on the season with this win. http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=270202005

The Cavaliers fall apart in 92-89 loss to the Heat in Miami

Blogged under Game recaps, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Friday 2 February 2007 at 12:21 pm

This was an awful loss for the Cavaliers. They were outscored 34-23 in the 4th quarter by the Heat (24 points by Dwyane Wade in the quarter)! The Cavs were outrebounded 44-32 by the Heat, but the real reason the Cavs lost this game was their poor free throw shooting. The Cavs only hit 15 of 24 free throws (62.5%) last night and that is unacceptable! Daniel Gibson came to play as he led the Cavs in scoring with 19 points and he hit 4 of 6 three point shots. LeBron James had an awful game last night and was a key contributor in the loss for the Cavs. He only shot 6 of 18 from the floor….but what killed the Cavs was that he only hit 3 of 8 free throws! James finished with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists.

The Cavs fell to 26-20 on the season with this loss. http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=270201014
